In 1953 brothers Myron and Roy Kauffmann, along with Edward Tint, bought the former Hooper Farm located on Rt. 299 (now Rt. 13) for $22,000 and formed KTK Farm. The Kauffmanns and Mr. Tint intended to develop the farm into a new housing subdivision called Huron Heights. The original plan was to build houses on three streets with views of the Huron River and Mud Brook. The completion of a lagoon in 1955 was celebrated with a boat parade. In 1956 the village of Huron annexed nine acres of the property. Encouraged by the success of the development Morton Solberg founded Huron Lagoons Marina in 1960 and Dick Palmer created the Huron Country Club (Thunderbird Hills Golf Course) in 1961.

Located to the south of Huron Heights is Thunderbird Hills Golf Course. Constructed on farmland previously owned by Phillip Lorcher the first 18 holes were designed and built by Richard Palmer of Vermilion and his sons in 1960. Pictured is Roy Kauffman and Dick Palmer.

The Lorcher farmhouse became the first clubhouse at Thunderbird Hills Golf Course. Note the change of street names and the hotel and motel to be included in the vision. When Huron renamed 32 streets in 1962, Brookside became Marina Drive and Riverview became Laguna Drive.

Many of the houses in Huron Heights were built by Carroll Construction, a Huron company owned by Phil Carroll.
